LA PLACITA LUMINARIAS
This public art project commemorates the hundreds of families that were displaced when urban renewal came for the Latino barrios in downtown Tucson in the 1960s. Over 200 homes were bulldozed to make way for developments such as the Tucson Convention Center as well as new police and fire departments. With these homes much of the City’s history was lost, as families that once made up a vibrant community were scattered all over. As a way of acknowleding this history and commemorating these families HSL Properties partnered with CUADRO to design a fitting monument to those that were displaced.
